Description:
Nestled mile-high in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, within the historic farming community of Oak Glen, lies The Wildlands Conservancy’s Oak Glen Preserve. The 2,189-acre preserve is home to the Conservancy’s Southern California Montane Botanic Garden and Children’s Outdoors Discovery Center.  SBVAA has partnered with the conservancy to organize public outreaches and hold club star parties at the Oak Glen preserve. The altitude is approximately 5,000 feet so nights can be chilly.

Star Party Etiquette:
As with all star parties, please observe standard star party etiquette. Some tips: try to arrive and set up before dark; use no white light – use red filtered flashlights wherever possible – minimize white light from the auto door and dome lights; if you arrive late or plan to leave early, take care to approach and park so your headlights or backup lights do not shine on other participants; if you leave early or must use white light, first give a warning so observers or astrophotographers can compensate; please ask before handling other participant’s telescope equipment. Most importantly, be prepared to relax and enjoy good company under the night sky.

While I may not be able to drive up the hill, please watch for new member Danny Delgado and daughter, Alina. They may be coming. Danny is learning his new scope and hope you all will welcome him to his first member event. He is a recent liver transplant recipient and recovering nicely, but may tire easily. I told him to take plenty of water and maybe a jacket.

    Hello,

My name is Joe! I am local to Yucaipa and I like to take photos for a hobby. I am no professional by any means! I just know enough to be dangerous. I would like to try a little astrophotography and learn what planet/star I am looking at when I look up at the night sky. I hope you all don’t mind if I join you. I read all the do’s and dont’s so I should be good!
