Tom Lawson has sent out an email with the correct address to Tom Bennett’s place. The address listed here is downtown Banning. Please refer to Tom’s email for the star party details and signup here to let members know that you are going. (updated 7/25/2022)
Moon Phase: 2 days after New Moon
Sunset: 7:53 pm
Star Party Etiquette:
As with all star parties, please observe standard star party etiquette. Some tips: try to arrive and set up before dark; use no white light – use red filtered flashlights wherever possible – minimize white light from the auto door and dome lights; if you arrive late or plan to leave early, take care to approach and park so your headlights or backup lights do not shine on other participants; if you leave early or must use white light, first give a warning so observers or astrophotographers can compensate; please ask before handling other participant’s telescope equipment. Most importantly, be prepared to relax and enjoy good company under the night sky.

There’s a few blue patches but currently a rain squall is passing through. Don’t know if conditions will improve before it gets dark. Definitely a dice-toss on the weather. The Webster Dob is set up under the patio cover ready to be rolled out for viewing.

All, Hope you have wonderful “skies”, cool weather, and a memorable “party”….Always, Robin Hennen P.S. Yes, I just missed being evacuated in the Oak Fire….But thanks to a steady stream of fire-retardant planes, ect…it’s okay now…Whew !
Will be there—I’m looking forward to it!
We have never attended any of your meetings. Is this event an open invite? Do we need to bring a telescope with us? Are members available to.assist with our telescope if we bring one?
Tammy, in case no one replied–I am a member but cannot attend the events during the Covid issue here. The July event at Mr. Bennett’s home is for members only. But the next public event is on Sept. 3 at the SB County Museum in Redlands. They charge a $10 admission ticket cost but that also lets you browse through parts of the Museum before you go out the back doors to where the club sets up the scopes in a courtyard! There is a public club meeting set for August 6th at 7 PM up at the First Christian Church in Del Rosa (Highland area off eastern end of Highland Ave). That is open to the public and anyone interested in becoming a member can come. We used to hold them at the Museum until the policies changed and we had to find a new “home” so to say. This is one of our member’s church, so they allow us to meet there on Saturdays once a month. If the weather is good, a few of the members set up their scopes on the lawn for some viewing. On the website is a map showing how to get up there to the church–kind of a winding drive through a few neighborhoods above Highland and near the street named Del Rosa Avenue, I think. I hope this helps! I will see if I can reach Gerald, the club president, or Chris, our outreach coordinator to give you a reply here!
Sorry no one got back to you sooner!
You are correct Pam this July star party is a members-only event due to it taking place at a member’s residence. Tammy, I encourage you to attend one of our public outreaches or a typical star party where all are welcome. Our club meetings are open to the public as well. TY.
