Star Party Etiquette:
As with all star parties, please observe standard star party etiquette. Some tips: try to arrive and set up before dark; use no white light – use red filtered flashlights wherever possible – minimize white light from the auto door and dome lights; if you arrive late or plan to leave early, take care to approach and park so your headlights or backup lights do not shine on other participants; if you leave early or must use white light, first give a warning so observers or astrophotographers can compensate; please ask before handling other participant’s telescope equipment. Most importantly, be prepared to relax and enjoy good company under the night sky.

My update on weather from the Clear Sky Clock (Canada) ECMWF (Europe) and GFS (US) models:

    Clouds:
    ClearSkyClock: Clear and Good Transparency
ECMWF: No appreciable clouds less than 10% (from Windy.com)
GFS: 10%-20% high and medium elev clouds

    Wind:
    ClearSkyClock: Winds 12 to 16 mph after 10pm; 6pm to 12pm before 10pm
    ECMWF: 8 to 10 mph
    GFS: similar to ECMWF

    Satellite:
Clear for now but an area of clouds and showers east of Sierra Nevada mountains and into Nevada edging southward. May be worth checking again just before leaving.

As of now I will be going.

Will try to get some live-stack images of Omega Centauri and M13 for comparison. Should be fun if the wind isn’t too bad.

I’m planning to go. Will check weather again Sat afternoon. By the way the clear-sky-clock is based on the Canadian weather computer model. There is a line in clear-sky-clock that also shows the European model (ECMWF) cloud prediction. And there is the US model GFS. You can see the cloud predictions from ECMWF and GFS in the program “windy dot com”. The high cloud forecasts can show a lot of variation in model predictions when the conditions are marginal. Windy will also show wind predictions for the two models. Real time satellite images are available too.

Wunderground weather forecast for Saturday night, Wonder Valley predicts winds of 17 mph at 9:00, 14 mph at 10:00. Maybe this isn’t our night for this place, I’m not sure. If you guys still want to go, I’ll join you.

The wind forecast has calmed down some for tomorrow night, so it’s looking like a good night for deepsky.
